“If you plan to kill me, you’d better be quick.” – Freya
Let’s get something out of the way before we begin this review: I have a thing for anything royal, paranormal, mythical, or magical. So my choice of books shouldn’t surprise anyone. Like this one, which you can tell from the title must have something to do with royalty…
I wasn’t sure how I felt about this book at first, there weren’t really any bad or good feelings towards it. It was pretty neutral, however, once I started reading I was once again sucked into a world I didn’t want t leave! I LOVED this story so much! For one, Rhiannon Thomas sure knows how to write a compelling story with interesting characters and plot twists! She was able to tie science, mystery, royalty, and just a touch of romance all together!
My absolute favorite aspect of Long May She Reign was the main character Freya. I don’t think I have ever related to a character so much before. She’s awkward, a bit insecure, has no idea what to do when it comes to boys, super introverted, and just pretty much relatable. She’s always questioning and overthinking, yet sound in her decisions. You can feel her confidence in herself grow. As I read, I was continuously wide-eyed and laughing because of how much she minded me of me. Here’s just a couple snapshots of my favorite scenes:
Enough about Freya and her amazing character quirks; I found the plot fascinating. I mean, really, twenty-third in line to the throne and literally everyone before you dies? That’s what caught my eye, Freya had no intention for the throne, I pretty sure the ten in line before her didn’t either, yet she gets it. Because she ditched a party that turned into a mass murder. Talk about luck… To top that off, people turn against her and she has no-one to trust, not even her father. There are definitely some twists and turns in this story. If you like rollercoasters, literally or figuratively, jump on and enjoy the ride. See how a queen of science rules a kingdom that doesn’t want her.
Do you remember those times we would fight and argue and be down right horrible to one another? How about those times where we bargained with each other to get out of doing something? Or when we would prank mom or the babies? Oh! How about that one time when you told me that you could handle drinking coffee with me late at night as I did homework? I’ll never forget that time, you little liar. We stayed up ALL night because of your sugar high.
We’ve been through quite a bit, yet we got through it with each other. I appreciate you so very much, much more than you know. You are always there for me when I need you (or don’t) and vice versa. We have a bond that no one can even begin to understand. You, my dear, are a special kind of gal. While being a mini version of mom, you are also both a little sister and big sister. That’s pretty awesome, because we get to relate on another level.
You have started the first chapter of a new book today, though life doesn’t always seem easy it does work out the way it’s supposed to. Don’t stress, don’t over think, just go and live your life the way you feel is right. Don’t worry about others and always be your cute, little, mean, and goofy self. I love you so very much and today you are finally an adult. At least legally, you’ll still my precious little sister to me. So happy birthday my wonderful darling, you have such greatness awaiting you!
Lots of Love,
Felie Fel ♥
P. S. I would appreciate it if I could have my black cardigan back and if we could FINALLY finish Gossip Girl.
Last year, 2016, was quite the rollercoaster. There were great times and there were bad, the ending wasn’t what I hoped it would be but do things ever happen the way we want them to?
I did, however, learn quite a bit from this recent year. I’ve learned to open myself up to people; it’s hard yes and sometimes disappointing in the end, but so worth it. I’ve learned that you can’t trust everyone who claims to be your friend; and those who are will do everything to keep that bond. I’ve re-learned the importance of family, that in the end the arguments and fights don’t matter. Just love. Family isn’t just blood, it includes the ones you bond so closely with (like your best friend that brings you a WHOLE container of chocolates when you’re sad.)
I’m not big on the idea of “a new year, a new me” because I become a “new” me every time something major happens. I learn something new about myself every day because every day I grow. So for this new year, 2017, (more…)
That one beatiful holiday that celebrates the joyous feeling of love and romance is right around the corner. Yes, I’m talking about Valentine’s Day, but you knew that already. I’m going to guess that many of you have some big plans that day.
Valentine’s Day was one of the best holidays growing up. As kid everyone was your valentine and you always had some little classroom party to look forward to at the end of the day. But now? No more Valentine parties, that’s for sure.
My plans this Valentine’s Day are to, unfortunately, study for all my upcoming tests and maybe binge watch a couple of movies with my roommate. We recently watched Pride & Prejudice and oh my god let me tell you how awesome and romantic that movie is. It’s perfection in a nut shell and Mr. Darcy, well Mr. Darcy is another story for another time…
With that said, here’s a sneak peak on ways to my heart:
Books, plain and simple. I live and breath books, they are the best way to my heart.
Coffee or tea, either or is fine by me. Sipping this hot beverage any time of day is relaxing and something I’ll always love.
Clichés. I know that’s so lame, but being a hopeless romantic makes me love most of those cheesy clichés we all dislike so much.
Staying in and having a movie day! It’s fun and romantic, plus I’ve recently learned that cuddle helps keep you healthy.
Shooting, take me out to the shooting range. It’s almost as great as taking me to a bookstore!
Those are just a few ways to my heart. Now tell me how to get to yours!
